Company History
The Foot Mechanic was founded in 1998 by Dr. Brett Purdom based on a recognition that existing methods for diagnosing and treating lower extremity overuse injuries due to biomechanical abnormalities left much to be desired. Traditional methods relied mainly on taking a “static” impression of an individual’s feet. Based on his experience rehabilitating Sports Medicine injuries, Dr. Purdom has a complex understanding of the lower extremity injuries. Since overuse implies motion, he surmised that a more accurate approach would involve observing an individual dynamically. Melding together a traditional orthopedic evaluation with the latest technology used to capture and break down an individual’s biomechanics, Dr. Purdom developed a unique process that allows for a much more accurate diagnosis, as well as customized treatment. This process has been proven in over a period of 10 years and thousands of clients.
About Dr. Purdom
The Foot Mechanic was founded and is owned and operated by Dr. Brett Purdom. Dr. Purdom received his Bachelors Degree in Biology from Washington State University, his Masters Degree and Doctoral degrees in Physical Therapy from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Purdom has worked in Sports Medicine at the University of Colorado (CU) Sports Medicine Clinic for the past 12 years. Dr. Purdom has also taught Human Anatomy, Exercise Physiology and Biomechanical Kinesiology through the Biology Department at the University of Denver, and has worked as an Adjunct Faculty member in the Physical Therapy School at the University of Colorado. Dr. Purdom is a Certified Athletic Trainer and is credentialed as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association

The Foot Mechanic has prescribed well over 2,000 pair of custom orthotics, Our clients include the University of Denver, University of Colorado, and Colorado State University Athletic programs, the Loveland Ski Team, and individuals from ages 8 to 80 who participate in about every athletic endeavor imaginable.
