Custom Foot Orthotics

Investing in a custom foot orthotic can relieve pain and protect you from overuse injuries, pain and muscle fatique. We have options for custom foot orthotics for several speciality shoes for sport or everyday activity.

The Foot Mechanic provides services to individuals from ages 8 to 80 who participate in about every athletic endeavor imaginable, from casual walkers to marathon runners.

The Foot Mechanic ™ specializes in Custom Foot Orthotics. These custom devices are designed based on the size and shape of your foot, your personal biomechanics, and most importantly to correct your specific biomechanical problems. The Foot Mechanic gathers multiple datapoints about you through an Interview, Orthopedic Exam, Video Gait Analysis, and Dynamic Digital Force Plate Evaluation. This data is compiled and used to prescribe an orthotic that’s custom-mapped to your foot, and includes biomechanical corrections that are specific to your condition. In contrast, most generic orthotics rely on a single data point (a static imprint of your foot), and provide a one-size-fits or all (or at best, a one-size fits many) solution. While these devices may be better than doing nothing, they typically fall short with respect to providing the best possible solution to your problem.

Basketball

BASKETBALL/COURT

CUSTOM DENVER FOOT ORTHOTICS

Basketball, Volleyball and other sports that require activity on the hard-court offer unique challenges to the lower extremities. When coupling the continued pounding inherent to the sport with the volume of time spent in practice and games, loading based injuries are inevitable. A biomechanically correct orthotic designed specifically to absorb and distribute the constant pounding forces absorbed by the lower extremities is a must. These orthotics, which are both custom for each individual athlete and tailored specifically to the activity, can be made by The Foot Mechanic.

Cycling

CYCLING ORTHOTICS

Cycling offers unique challenges to lower leg Biomechanics. By definition, it is neither a closed chain nor open chain sport. As this is the case, we must treat the foot biomechanic differently than normal foot-to-ground activities. Cycling is the only sport where the leg is attached directly to a machine (the bike). As it exists as the primary contact point between leg and bike, the connection between foot and pedal is paramount for proper transfer. Simply stated, the better the connection, the more efficient the power stroke becomes. Cycling orthotics function by efficiently distributing the contact forces between the foot and the pedal. As many cyclists experience forefoot numbness, ankle tendonitis and knee pain due to faulty biomechanics, custom cycling orthotics offer a cyclist an excellent adjunct to a professional bike fitting.

Dress Shoes

DRESS SHOE ORTHOTICS

Abnormal biomechanics if present, do not occur only during athletic activities: They are present with every step you take! For each individual, we must look at the volume of time spent on your feet. Most people exercise less than an hour every day. However, at work you are on your feet for six, eight, and even ten hours per day! An orthotic alters the foot by putting it in the ideal position for weight transfer. If made correctly, an orthotic will unload tissues that are abnormally stressed and normalize foot-ankle-knee-hip biomechanics. Dress orthotics are an excellent option for addressing your lower extremity problems throughout your non-exercising hours.

Football

FOOTBALL ORTHOTICS

Football is a sport which requires both endurance and quick strike speed. As these two types of movements are uniquely different, Football athletes can exhibit both chronic stress injuries and more acute strain related injuries. For this reason, these athletes incur unique loading forces throughout their seasons. The Foot Mechanic® has designed custom orthotics that help the athlete adapt to these loads incurred while maximizing the force transfer positions needed to be fast. This ultimately increases lower extremity stamina.

Golfing

GOLFING FOOT ORTHOTICS

Golf is a sport that relies on force transfer which is predicated on a solid contact position with the ground. A biomechanical golf orthotic is designed to provide ideal stabilization within the golf shoe. The benefits of these devices are two-fold:

  1. Aligns the foot in its ideal position to maximize foot/shoe contact. This leads to better surface contact and ultimately, a better platform from which to transfer force to the club and the ball.
  2. Decreases stress on the tissues local to the foot, knee, hip and low back. Abnormal foot positions cause abnormal force relationships up the “kinetic chain.” This causes these joints take too much stress. Ultimately, this stress/load over time causes pain and inflammation. Foot, knee, hip and low back pain is detrimental to the golf swing.

Hockey Figure/ Inline Skating

HOCKEY/FIGURE/INLINE SKATING

CUSTOM DENVER FOOT ORTHOTICS

Skating requires that the lower extremity function differently than it does in normal “Foot-to-Ground” sports. The blade must be in contact with the ice in order to accelerate and change direction. Thus, the Foot-to-Skate and Skate-to-Ice force transmission is paramount to successful skating. A skating orthotic maximizes foot-to-skate contact and leads to better technical control.

RUNNING ORTHOTICS

Biomechanical studies conclude that contact pressures during running exceed 3-5 times your body weight. If you couple this weight loading with the volume of steps (number of steps/run), it becomes apparent how overuse injuries occur. Simply stated, a faulty biomechanic in walking may never become symptomatic. However, in running the slightest biomechanical abnormality can creep up and ultimately keep you from training. Running orthotics put your feet in the ideal position for weight transfer. If made correctly, an orthotic will unload tissues that are abnormally stressed, and, normalize foot-ankle-knee-hip biomechanics.

Skiing/ boarding

SKIING/BOARDING

CUSTOM FOOT ORTHOTICS IN DENVER

Skiing is a sport that requires coordination, balance and timing. It also offers unique biomechanical challenges. Simply stated, skiing requires turning. The biomechanics of turning demand coordinated weight shifting and precise edging techniques. A successful skier relies heavily on the union of the boot to the binding which ensures that the boot and ski will function together. However, most tend to overlook the most crucial union: That of the foot to the boot. The contact between the foot and boot is what transfers the body’s commands to the ski. A Ski Orthotic is more than just a comfortable foot bed. It is a custom device that conveys force from your specific feet to the ski. Inefficient force transfer predicts inefficient turning. As ski equipment technology continues to advance, don’t forget the most crucial part.

Snowboarding offers unique challenges to lower leg Biomechanics. Boarding differs from skiing in that its edging technique employs front-to-back leaning rather than independent ski maneuvering. Weight shifting and edging are important skills to master if you expect to ride upright! The contact between your foot and the snowboard must be as efficient as possible. Inefficient weight transfer between your foot and the snowboard can lead to some unexpected and rapid trauma. A custom built Snowboarding Orthotic will maximize your edging efficiency and decrease your foot/ankle/knee/hip soreness at the end of the day.

WALKING ORTHOTICS

Walking is an activity that can cause cumulative stress on an individual’s lower extremities. Whether walking for exercise or just everyday locomotion, the number of steps an individual takes can really add up. Small biomechanical abnormalities, when coupled with the volume of steps in a day can create many chronic loading injuries. These biomechanical abnormalities can be corrected by Custom Foot Orthotic which is specific to your waking shoes.
