People contact Chan to discuss foot, ankle, knee, hip, or lower-back concerns and whether orthotics might be an appropriate option. If orthotics aren't recommended after the assessment, Chan can discuss other options or refer you to another provider.

Call or send a question. Chan generally answers or returns calls within 24–48 hours, often the same business day.

Your first appointment
Typically 30–60 minutes: a conversation about your history and concerns, a lower-extremity assessment, measurements standing and seated, a digital foot scan, and gait analysis.

Made at a local Denver lab
Your orthotics are usually ready in 2–3 weeks. For special circumstances, a rush option may be available in about 2–4 business days for an additional fee.

Optional follow-up fitting
A 10–15 minute fitting and discussion of proper wear, included in the upfront price.

From insert to fitting
Each orthotic is made for one person. An optional 10–15 minute follow-up fitting and wear discussion is included in the upfront price.

- What should I bring?
- Bring examples of the shoes you use for daily life, walking, exercise, or a particular sport or activity. If you have a prescription, please bring it too.
- How long does it take?
- Manufacturing usually takes 2–3 weeks. Rush orders may be available in 2–4 business days for an additional fee.
- Can I move one pair between shoes?
- Often, if the shoes are a similar style and size. Not every orthotic fits every shoe, and Chan will discuss the options with you. A discount is available when purchasing multiple pairs.
- How long do orthotics last, and can they be repaired?
- They typically last about 3–5 years, although lifespan varies. Existing orthotics may be repaired or refurbished if they are still working well and not causing issues. Major adjustments are handled by the Denver lab.
- What about pricing, insurance, and HSA/FSA?
- Please call for current pricing. We do not bill insurance. HSA/FSA cards may be used for eligible purchases, subject to your plan's requirements. If you have a prescription, bring it with you.
- Is there a break-in period?
- Yes. Chan discusses gradual wear at your fitting and gives you written instructions. See “Getting used to your orthotics” below.
Getting used to your orthotics
- Start with up to two hours of wear on the first day.
- Then increase wear by about 30–60 minutes each day, as comfortable.
- Remove them if soreness develops, and contact The Foot Mechanic if discomfort continues.
